how the other half lives
Last night’s performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie was a wonderful treat. The performance really would have been enjoyable from anywhere in the pavilion at Wolf Trap—though given the intense storms that raged through the area just a couple of hours prior to curtain, I wouldn’t have wanted lawn seats last night—but the front row seats made it even better. And sharing the experience with Jeff was not only the icing on the cake, it was the marzipan hearts on top and the Château d’Yquem to wash it down. I feel so alive when we’re together.
Tonight Jeff has had plans for a while to see the Tori Amos and Ben Folds “Lottapianos” tour at Merriweather Post Pavilion. I’m a Tori fan from way back, but hadn’t gotten a ticket—and hadn’t wanted to horn in on Jeff’s earlier plans with his co-workers. This morning, though, he told me that his co-worker ended up with a spare ticket, so on the spur of the moment I’m leaving work early in order to tag along. And really looking forward to it.
We also were talking about going away somewhere for the long weekend, so I started looking into B&Bs a reasonable drive away. Of course, at this late date almost everything was booked; I did finally find one room available at a B&B in Luray, Virginia, but we decided that it wasn’t worth making a reservation quickly just for its own sake, if we really didn’t have any plans once we got there (especially relatively in the middle of nowhere, like Luray). So we’ll do some daytripping this weekend and plan a separate B&B trip sometime this fall.
At the risk of being too personal or too mushy, I really like this guy.
